Theresa Ritz is proud to serve as the POWER Zone Superintendent and is nearing 30 years of serving students, staff, and families in District 49. She has spent most of her career in the POWER Zone, serving as a teacher, Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, Principal, Executive Principal, and now Zone Superintendent. She spent 17 years as a principal, including 14 years leading schools and three years as the POWER Zone Executive Principal. From teaching first grade to leading this zone, she has never lost sight of what brought her to education in the first place-- making a difference for children.

People First is at the heart of Theresa's leadership. She believes the staff experience shapes the student experience, and that great schools are places where people feel known, valued, supported, and challenged to keep growing. She is passionate about strong relationships, excellent instruction, and making sure students leave our schools with as many opportunities ahead of them as possible. Theresa is proud of the POWER Zone's commitment to continuous improvement through the Marzano High Reliability Schools framework and other research-based practices, while embracing District 49's culture of innovation and continually asking-- How can we do this even better for kids?

Theresa earned a bachelor's degrees in psychology and sociology from Regis University and completed her teaching license, master's degree in cross-cultural education, and principal licensure through the University of Denver. She later earned her superintendent license through UCCS. Her husband, David, is in his 34th year as an educator, and one of Theresa's greatest joys is time spent with him, their three adult children, and their growing families.

Outside of work, Theresa loves live music, long walks, exploring coffee shops, and Colorado evenings around the fire pit. After nearly 30 years in District 49, she remains incredibly grateful for the people she has worked alongside and the families she has had the opportunity to serve. She is proud to call District 49 home and excited about what is still ahead for the POWER Zone.
